Self catering is slowly becoming a trend in
the food and restaurant industry, with many eating establishments trying out
this very unique concept and approach to dining.
Self catering is simply a self service restaurant,
where customers and diners do almost everything themselves, except for the
cooking, of course, but sometimes even that too.
The appeal of self catering is for people to
feel involved in the whole process - they don't just sit down and wait. While
there is also an appeal to simply ordering from an attendant or waiter and then
waiting for the food to arrive, for some, sometimes it pays to do things the
way you want to.
On the low end side, many fast foods and
cafeterias operate on the principle of self service, which makes for efficient
and fast service. Diners immediately see the food on the menu for the day,
order themselves, pay, eat, and then leave. On the higher end, on the other
hand, are the cook it yourself outfits, which, although not strictly completely
self service restaurants, still give diners the unique experience of being able
to prepare and have a hand in the cooking of their own food - which is the case
with ‘shabu-shabu' establishments, where diners boil and cook their own food in
a flavoured broth.
